FDG-avid portal vein tumor thrombosis from hepatocellular carcinoma in contrast-enhanced FDG PET/CT

چکیده مقاله:
Objective(s): In this study, we aimed to describe the characteristics of portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT), complicating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in contrast-enhanced FDG PET/CT scan. Methods: In this retrospective study, 9 HCC patients with FDG-avid PVTT were diagnosed by contrast-enhanced fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT), which is a combination of dynamic liver CT scan, multiphase imaging, and whole-body PET scan. PET and CT DICOM images of patients were imported into the PET/CT imaging system for the re-analysis of contrast enhancement and FDG uptake in thrombus, the diameter of the involved portal vein, and characteristics of liver tumors and metastasis. Results: Two patients with previously untreated HCC and 7 cases with previously treated HCC had FDG-avid PVTT in contrast-enhanced FDG PET/CT scan. During the arterial phase of CT scan, portal vein thrombus showed contrast enhancement in 8 out of 9 patients (88.9%). PET scan showed an increased linear FDG uptake along the thrombosed portal vein in all patients. The mean greatest diameter of thrombosed portal veins was 1.8 ± 0.2 cm, which was significantly greater than that observed in normal portal veins (P

متن کاملPortal vein thrombosis with contrast‐enhanced ultrasound in a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma: a case study
Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is the presence of thrombus in the portal vein that causes partial or complete occlusion. It is prevalent in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), where it can be either bland or malignant depending on the presence of invasion. Recent studies have identified contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) as the most reliable method of imaging to make this distinction. The arterial n...
متن کاملRadiotherapeutic options for hepatocellular carcinoma with portal vein tumor thrombosis.
Portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) is a common paraneoplastic condition in advanced primary hepatocellular carcinoma or hepatobiliary tract malignancies. Tumors with PVTT are frequently associated with adverse and aggressive features such as intrahepatic tumor dissemination, early treatment failure, or deterioration of hepatic function. Therefore, the treatment outcomes for PVTT in historical ...
متن کامل(18)F-FDG PET/CT imaging of massive portal vein tumor thrombosis from ileal adenocarcinoma.
A 72 years old patient was referred to us with ileal adenocarcinoma after surgical desection. Fluorine-18- fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ((18)F-FDG PET/CT) imaging showed massive portal vein, tumor thrombosis. Clinical examination and laboratory tests did not support the diagnosis of septic thrombus. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported ...
متن کاملFDG PETCT in colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer represents the second most common malignancy worldwide, with approximately one million newly diagnosed cases each year, and is the fourth leading cause of cancer mortality. This article provides an overview of the role of FDG (fluorodeoxyglucose) PET (positron emission tomography) CT (computed tomography) for assessment in patients with colorectal cancer. A summary of key lear...
